Question 1: What is this website all about?
Each year Dynamic Solutions runs
an Australian Rules Football tipping competition for our friends, family, clients
and basically anyone else who wants to get involved. It is a web-based system which
we wrote ourselves back in 1998 and have tinkered with it ever since.
We have members from all over Australian and even internationally.
Click
here to sign up.
Question 2: How much does it cost for me to join up?
Nothing.
Question 3: Do you have prizes?
At the end of each season and before the finals begin, we
award the overall competition winner with one or more prizes.
Question 4: How does it work?
To enter the competition you first have to create an account. You
can do this by clicking on the Become a Member button on the website. There
are a number of different groups that are part of the competition. You can join the
one called Dynamic Solutions and Friends. Or if you prefer you can create your
own group. Before each game we will send you
an email reminding you to submit your tips. Easy!
Question 5: What do you do with the details I provide you when I create an account?
We only use them for the competition. Nothing else. We do not sell, exchange, give
away or barter any of our members' details.
Question 6: I want to create my own group. How do I do that?
Follow these steps:
- Pick a name for your group, say "Sensitive New Age Guys"
- Pick a username for the group administrator account, say "snag-admin"
- Create this group administrator account by going to the front page of
the website and clicking the button Become a Member. Make sure you
select the group "administrator".
- Note that this account can not be used to enter tips so
it should be created in addition to your normal account.
- Email the umpire with the name of the group and the name of the administrator account
- Wait for the umpire to reply
- Tell your group members to sign up, but make sure they select your group.
How easy is that? Ok, now that you have a group of your own you will have to
take on the role of the group administrator. With power comes responsibility.
This means that you will now be able to delete members of your group, change their
passwords, enter late tips for them and even enter the results of a game. Note
that this is NOT a way for you to subvert the system and boost your own score.
We have installed a super-duper-sneakey-snooper-security system that will stop you.
So don't even think about it.
Question 7: How do I make sure my tips got saved correctly?
Press the Enter Tips button, then select the round from
the pop up menu and press View Round. Your tips will be displayed on the
screen after being retrieved from our databses. If you wish you can change them
at this time.
Question 8: I am a Collingwood supporter. Can you make it a bit easier for me?
Sure, let the umpire know and he'll give you a 10 point start.
Question 9: I don't like my group anymore. Can I change?
Yes you can. Send an email to the Umpire with your username,
old group and the new one you want to join. It would be polite to ask the new group
administrator first.
Question 10: Why do you run this competition for free? Other on-line competitions ask for money.
Because we're crazy?
Question 11: I am going away for a few weeks. Can I enter my tips in advance?
Yes. Just select the future rounds from the pop up menu, hit the View Round
button and enter your tips as normal.
Question 12: I've changed my mind about the teams I picked. Can I change my tips?
Yes.
Question 13: My memory isn't the best. Can you send me a reminder?
Yes. In fact we'll send you two reminders for the price of one! If you haven't
entered your tips we will send you a reminder email on the two nights before
the first game of a round. So let's say the first game is on Friday - you will receive a reminder
on Wednesday and Thursday night.
Click on the My Details button, tick the Send Reminders box and press Save Changes.
Question 14: I don't want to get email reminders.
No problem. Just click on the My Details button, un-tick the
Send Reminders box and press Save Changes.
Question 15: Why did you close the tipping at 6pm? The game doesn't start for ages yet!
We have a 6pm closing time so that people who only have Internet access at work are
not at a disadvantage to those who have Internet access at home.
Question 16: I forgot to enter my tips! Would you enter them for me please?
No. Don't bug the Umpire about this. Contact your group administrator. However, they are
both likely to say something like the following:
I'd like to draw your attention to the Terms and Conditions, in particular:
Closing time for each round is 6pm (Melbourne time) on the night
of the first game (unless indicated otherwise).
These Terms and Conditions appeared on the page you had to click through to register an
account with us so you can't say you didn't know. Also, you have been sent 2 email reminders
to submit your tips.
It's a good habit to enter your tips one week in advance in case you do forget or something
goes wrong. You can always change your mind later and modify your selections.
Question 17: My computer died last week. Would you enter my late tips please?
Email your group administrator about this. Make sure you do this as soon as possible
and make sure you tell them what your tips are. The final decision is up to your group administrator. And don't bug
the umpire about this!
Question 18: What happens in a draw?
You don't get any points for a drawn game. We treat it as a loss when tallying your score.
Question 19: Can you change my username?
Sorry, but your username is the only thing we can't change. We suggest you create a new account with the username you really want, then contact your group administrator and ask them to enter your old tips into your new account. Your administrator will then delete your old account. However, unless it is the start of the season, this may mean a lot of work for your administrator because they will have to re-enter all your tips for each round.
Question 20: What happens if I forget to enter my tips?
You don't get any points at all. Some competitions will award you the home teams, or the away teams, or Lou's tips. But we don't do that. Why? Well because that is what the group administrators all agreed to when we started this competition. Besides we think we give you plenty of chances to enter your tips and even send you reminders.
